Humble Origins- From meager beginnings, Harold and Elsie Roof began a small business weaving baskets for local farmers looking to distribute their produce. Over 75 years later, Roof Basket Works has now become international, issuing over 150 kinds of baskets to both commercial and private customers looking for quality at a low price.

Our Staff- Still in its original location in Lexington, South Carolina, Roof Basket Works is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to not only supplying superior hand woven baskets, but taking care of the very hands that weave them. With health care benefits and a modern facility in which to work, our employees are both talented and appreciated, allowing us the satisfaction of selling a worthwhile product, made by worthwhile people.

Envy our “Green”- Though it may seem redundant that such an organic-based business would need to point out that they’ve “gone green,” we practice a keen attention to detail and (to be honest) we’re proud of the extra steps we’ve taken. These steps are only part of our journey towards being as absolutely green as possible. Seeing that as our goal, we are always open to further suggestions.

Our modern facility begins the process with raw poplar wood obtained from local timber harvesters. From there it is veneered into thin strips of wood and hand crafted into a finished basket.

Our modern facility begins the process with raw poplar wood obtained from local timber harvesters. From there it is veneered into thin strips of wood and hand crafted into a finished basket, each one as individual as a snowflake. The excess wood is then turned into mulch, to be distributed throughout our state to be used for boiler fuel and gardening. To intricately see the process, check out this video from the South Carolina Farm Bureau.
